The
following are some of the advantages of using the computer:
1. VOLUME-
The computer is particularly suited to handling large amounts of data.
2. ACCURACY-
The computer satisfies the need for a high degree of accuracy and its
consistency can be relied upon.
3. REPETIVENESS- Processing cycles that repeat
themselves over and over again are ideally suited to computer. Once programmed
the computer happily goes on and on, automatically performing as many cycles as
required.
4. COMPLEXITY- The computer can perform the most
complex calculations. As long as the application can be programmed then the
computer can provide the answer required.
5. SPEED- Computers works at phenomenal speeds.
This, combined with the ability to access records directly and from remote
locations, enables them to respond very quickly to a given situation .
6. COMMON DATA- One item of input data can
affect several different procedures. For example, a customers order for a
particular stock could involve production of an invoice updating of the
customers record, updating the stock record, and initiating a reorder for the
stock item. The many files involved can all be stored in one physical location
and accessed together so that a decision is made in the light of all the information.
Contrast a manual system where the item of data will go through many separate
independent procedure.
7. Its ability to store. It can store huge
amount of data more than can be stored conveniently by manual method (filing).
